Mrs. Barbara Solomon-Kerr

Barbara is another fine product of North Eastern College, her Alma Mater. Additionally, in a quest to continue on her professional path, she successfully graduated from the well renowned University of the West Indies, St. Augustine with the following:- Certificate in Early Childhood Care and Education (with distinction); Bachelor in Education Degree in Educational Administration (Upper Second Class Honours) and a Master in Education Degree with Concentration in Youth Guidance. She is an all round individual, as she is also the holder of certificates in Upholstery, Cake Decoration, Balloon Decoration, P.V.C Furnishing, Computer Literacy and Agriculture. In 1974, she entered the Teaching Service where she completed teaching training at various primary level institutions before going on to the Government Teachers' Training and Valsayn Teachers' College where she obtained her Teachers' Diploma. Mrs. Kerr was then appointed Teacher 1 at the North Oropouche Government Primary School where she worked diligently for twenty-five (25) years. In 2006, she was then promoted to Principal Primary at the Mafeking Gov't Primary School. After giving yeoman service in the Education Sector for over forty-one (41) years she retired in January, 2015. Barbara has a strong passion for children and believes in the holistic development of youth through education. She has dedicated her time and effort to student involvement in extracurricular activities such as 4H Clubs, Choral Speaking, Ballroom Dancing, Netball and Instrumental (e.g. steel pan) Groups. Over the years, Mrs. Kerr has held various notable positions namely, a Director of the Mayaro/Guayaguayare Educational Committee; 4H Voluntary Leader; Secretary of the National 4H Leaders Council; Netball Trainer and Member of the North Eastern Education District (N.E.E.D) Netball Committee and the N.E.E.D Professional Development Committee. She also represented the Principals of the South Eastern Education District in Grenada in an exchange visit for the implementation of the Centre of Excellence for Teacher Training (CETT) Programme. At present she is the Office Manager at the Member of Parliament for Toco/Sangre Grande Constituency Office.
